Why clocks?
I was recently asked: why clocks? I don’t think there’s a real reason, but I like to believe it’s connected to a fond childhood memory. At my grandparents’ home, there was a very old, broken table clock. Occasionally, it would come back to life for a minute or two when I gently held it in my hands. I was rarely allowed to handle it, and perhaps that’s what made it so precious to me.
One way or another, the idea of making a clock quickly came to mind as I learned the slab-building technique. This method involves cutting out shapes from a slab of clay (a bit like rolling out pastry dough), once it has firmed up. The pieces are then assembled to create the desired form.
The clock soon became my favorite subject. As a hobbyist potter with a full-time job, the time I can dedicate to my passion is limited. So, I always look forward with great excitement to the moment when it’s finally time for pottery—those delightful moments of creative relaxation.
